# Ultherapy in Seoul

> Ultherapy (microfocused ultrasound with visualization, MFU-V) in Seoul: how the treatment works, who it may suit, how a quote is built and what recovery involves, with the studies behind each answer.

Ultherapy® is a brand of microfocused ultrasound with visualization (MFU-V). It focuses ultrasound energy at nominal depths of 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm, and the clinician sees a live ultrasound image of the tissue before each line is delivered.

- US regulatory history: De Novo classification for non-invasive brow lift in 2009, then 510(k) clearances for submental and lateral neck laxity in 2012 and for décolletage wrinkles in 2014. These are US milestones, not authorization outside the US or a complete list of current US indications. The [FDA record K260618](https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/cdrh_docs/pdf26/K260618.pdf) documents a later US clearance; Korean permitted uses depend on the labeling of the exact device.
- Results build over 8–12 weeks. Fabi and Goldman assessed outcomes through 180 days; a separate 20-person pilot followed participants for one year, with 14 evaluable by blinded assessment. Neither study establishes a typical long-term duration or a fixed retreatment interval.
- Safety outcomes were reported across Fitzpatrick III–VI skin in a 52-patient open-label study (Harris 2015).
- Mean pain score was 4.5/10 with combined topical and oral analgesia in the Lim 2025 Asia-Pacific case series of Ultherapy Prime (n=30).
- Mild to moderate facial laxity is the usual indication, confirmed by examination; severe laxity may need a surgical consultation. Results are not permanent.
